# Disconnecting Kite from Tether

{% hint style="danger" %}
The tether carries power while the Kite is on. When performing any type of maintenance involving exposed wiring or reconnecting the Kite to the Tether, **always power off the Ground Station** by unplug the Ground Station from power.
{% endhint %}

When disconnecting a kite from the tether you must always first unplug the Ground Station from power:

* Unplug the Ground Station from power.
* Enter the **Maintenance Mode** by pressing the **Ground Station Emergency Land Button**. The Ground Station LEDs will turn fading blue, and now you can pull out the tether.
* Pull tether until there is enough slack that there will be no stress on the connectors and you can place the Kite safely on the ground upside-down.
* Carefully but firmly pull the connectors apart, holding both connectors in each hand and taking care not to apply unnecessary strain on the Kite Power Cable.
* **Do not expose the connectors to any type of moisture**.
* Disconnect the tether ring.
* Press the Ground Station Emergency Button for three seconds to spool in the tether. Hold the tether in place when the desired length is reached, and the Ground Station will cease spooling in after one second.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://manual.fotokite.com/maintenance-and-support/disconnecting-kite-from-tether.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
